company limited by guarantee.
It's aim are as follows:

To investigate all aspects of
Altitude Related Illness

To Educate mountaineers and trekkers
and their doctors about the nature and avoidance of altitude related illness
Established in 1992 this organisation
has acquired an internationally respected reputation for its research and
educational work. Unlike many similar research groups Medical Expeditions
specialises in researching on relatively large sample groups over a long period
of time. A typical expedition is comprised of 75 members exposed to altitude for
6 weeks.
The majority of Medical Expeditions
funds come from those participating in its expeditions. It supported by it's
sister company Medex.
Achievements:

Regular courses / conferences organised in the UK. Since
the first in 1992 these courses have been highly popular drawing audiences and
speakers from all over the world.

Three major expeditions to Nepal with a very wide range
of projects. Findings have been widely broadcast in the academic press.
Further Expedition planned for 2008.

Accumulated considerable experience in logistics and
remote research and regularly advises other groups.

Bursaries provided to researchers from developing
countries to attend international research meeting.

Regularly presents research at the biannual "Hypoxia"
conference in Canada and at the various International Society of Mountain
Medicine meetings throughout the world.

Subsidised the publication of "Handbook of High Altitude
and Mountain Medicine" which has now become a much read and essential volume.

Founded the first English speaking Diploma in Mountain
Medicine. This is accredited by both the UIAA (Union International Alpine
Associations) and the University of Leicester.
